On Feb 2, the Minister for Energy and Mineral Development Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa issued an Exploration License to Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) for the Kasurubani Block. On the other hand, UNOC’s partner DCRGlobal will be issued a license for Turaco Block. The two companies signed Production Sharing Agreements (PSA) which were agreeable to the cabinet.
The minister explained that these developments are expected to add new streams of oil and gas. Each contract also presents additional opportunities for National Content.
Meanwhile, Oranto Petroleum Limited is licensed to explore oil and gas resources at Ngassa Contract Areas in Hoima. Hon Nankabirwa said that technical studies have identified five drillable prospects. Oranto is therefore expected to start drilling for oil this year.
Equally, technical studies have confirmed drillable areas for the Kanywattaba Contract Area in Ntoroko. The contract area is licensed to Armour Energy Ug. Ltd. The company shall also start exploration drilling in 2023.
