Oil and gas development: deal or no deal!

DAY 8 #90DaysOfOil  – Assessing the Socio-Economic Transformation and Linkages thus far- comparing the “before” and “after”.

In its second week of 90 Days of oil and gas, Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum UCMP explores how the sector is transforming lives of common citizens and the economy generally.

The week’s themes run as thus “Assessing the Socio-Economic Transformation Thus Far -Comparing the Before and After”.

The three months long campaign is aimed at creating awareness regarding on going activities and accruing opportunities in the Uganda’s oil and gas sector. It also aims at providing information regarding Uganda’s conformity to local and international regulations in environmental protection.   

The campaign dubbed 90 Days of Oil and Gas follows renewed activities in the sector after partners  in the development of the Lake Albert oil project (together  with the Uganda and Tanzania governments)announced the Final Investment Decision(FID) for the integrated upstream and downstream  projects 1st Feb, 2022. . 

In a bid to understand how the oil and gas activities have impacted the lives of rural communities, local governments, entrepreneurs, small and medium scale businesses and large multinational companies, UCMP members shall be vising the oil and gas project areas in the Albertine Rift, western Uganda.

The UCMP team shall visit King Fisher, Tilenga, Kabaale Industrial Park project areas and surrounding communities.  It will be interesting to see how the projects have impacted `the areas since the last time UCMP members visited in 2019.
